The Invincible Exposure of Joe Arpaio by Larkin and Lacey

Shortly after their publication that exposed Sheriff Arpaio, Jim Larkin and Lacey were invaded in their homes by a battalion of law enforcement officers sent under the orders of the Sheriff. The families of the two men, who were the owners of an Arizona’s publication Phoenix News Times were bamboozled by the attack because they had no idea about what had caused the incidences.

However, their husbands knew very well that they had crossed the sheriff’s line and so they anticipated everything. What the two journalists had done was the exposure of a Grand Jury that had been formed by the sheriff to investigate and perform extra-judicial executions on the immigrants who they had discriminated for long. Joe Arpaio had become the Sheriff of Maricopa County back in 1992. Since then, the sheriff and his administration had been so harsh and cruel to the Hispanic and Latino communities. They treated them with a lot of brutality and discrimination to the extent that they could even arrest and execute them with no offense.

The treatment was so cruel that Lacey and Larkin felt they could not withstand it anymore. This resulted in their publication of the issue in one of the columns in their paper. This did not augur well with Sheriff Arpaio, and so he ordered their immediate arrests, hence the astonishing knocks on their doors at night.

After the invasion, the two were hurled into police land rovers that dragged them to the prison where they were jailed in separate police cells that were under the heavy guard by the county’s administration police officers. They spent the whole night there and then morning came the following day. When people woke up in the morning, they heard what had transpired during the night, and they were very mad about it.

They felt that the county administration had gone too far in testing their patience by arresting their voices. The public and the campus students went on to the streets demonstrating against the heinous acts of Arpaio and his government. They demanded the exoneration of the two journalists who they claimed had been detained illegally.

Arpaio later gave in to the demands and released Michael Lacey and Larkin the same day. However, the duo felt that their first amendment rights had been blatantly violated by Joe Arpaio and so they decided to seek justice by opening a lawsuit against the sheriff.

The court battles continued for a while before the judges came into conclusion. Luckily, in 2013, the judge of the Court of Appeal ruled in their favor and ordered Maricopa County Government to pay restitution of $3.75 to the duo.

Larkin And Lacey Turned The Table On America’s Most Notorious Sheriff

Widespread public outrage and condemnation broke out across America last August when President Donald Trump announced that he would issue a full pardon to a notorious convicted felon — the former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio had been found guilty of criminal contempt for the way he arrested, harassed and jailed undocumented immigrants. Under the direct orders of Sheriff Arpaio, Maricopa County deputies engaged in rampant racial profiling of anyone they suspected of being in the U.S. illegally. They often stopped and harassed even ordinary American citizens if they so much as looked to be of Hispanic heritage. Violating the U.S. Constitution was nothing new to Arpaio. In 2007, in a brazen disregard for the 1st Amendment, Sheriff Arpaio ordered the arrest of two Phoenix-based media men — Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey — owners of Village Voice Media.

Village Voice is a chain of alternative, weekly newspapers operating in many locations across America. It’s flagship operation was the Phoenix New Times. It was articles published in this newspaper that raised the ire of Sheriff Joe Arpaio and pushed him over the edge. He sent a squad of his goons in unmarked police vehicles to the homes of Larkin and Lacey in the middle of the night. The two men were summarily arrested and tossed in jail.

Public outrage soon followed. The arrest of two journalists who were just doing their jobs was too much even for some of Sheriff Arpaio conservative, anti-immigrant supporters. Larkin and Lacey won their release from jail and charges were dropped.

But the media men decided to sue Maricopa County for the outrageous actions of Sheriff Arpaio – -and they won. A Federal Court of Appeals judge awarded Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey a whopping $3.7 million in damages.

It was then that the two venerable media men decided to do something special. Rather than just pocket the millions they had just been awarded, they used the money to establish the Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund, a nonprofit social action organization dedicated to helping the very groups that were persecuted by Sheriff Arpaio. Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey had spoken truth to power, fought “The Man” in court and struck a blow for the “Good Guys” in one of the most legendary incidents in Arizona history.

The latest attempt by the government to arrest the two and shut down Backpage.com is seen as an attempt to shut them up. However, the two maintain that the action taken by the federal government is illegal and unconstitutional and they will be ready to challenge the accusations. They add that this is a blatant violation of the freedom of speech and it is sad those the government is trying to oppress the media in this century.

Larkin and Lacey

Last month marked the end of the case of former Sherriff of Maricopa County, Mr. Joe Arpaio. This was after U.S. District judge based in Arizona Justice Susan Bolton upheld the decision of President Donald Trump to pardon Mr. Joe Arpaio. Learn more about James Larkin and Michael Lacey: https://about.me/jim_larkin and http://james-larkin.com/

The former sheriff had been convicted earlier in July after he ignored a court order. This case had dragged on since 2007, and the judge’s decision wasn’t surprising as there was a general feeling that Mr. Arpaio wasn’t going to get convicted.

The end of the case comes as a blow to former Phoenix News Times co-owners, Michael Lacey, and Jim Larkin. The two were on the forefront in unearthing the scandals that blighted Mr. Arpaio’s career as a Sheriff.

Both were victims of Mr. Arpaio’s brutality having been arrested at some point in the past. After being released, Lacey wrote a detailed account of the injustices that were spearheaded by the Sherriff.

Lacey condemned the president’s action of pardoning Mr. Arpaio. He said that both the president and the former sheriff were rogue individuals who encouraged racism and torture. He just couldn’t believe how a man who brutally murdered and tortured prisoners could be released scot-free. Lacey and Larkin were some of the most knowledgeable people concerning Mr. Arpaio’s dealings in prison.

They never gave him breathing space as they published article after another describing the state of the prison that Mr. Arpaio was in command. This led to their arrest, and from inside they had a firsthand experience of what indeed happened in the jails.

The former sheriff was a feared man as he was ruthless in dealing with criminals. He would make them do things that were dehumanizing such as making them wear pink underwear and stripped swimsuits against their will. He also fed them on rotten foods and made them do loads of things that were embarrassing.

Some of the other wrongs that were exposed by the paper include the following:

  • The opening of the infamous Tent City in 1993. This facility had very harsh living conditions. During the summer, temperatures could rise to 135 degrees Fahrenheit. The prisoners inside the facility were often mistreated. Those who refused to obey Mr. Arpaio’s commands were brutally beaten. Expectant mothers were tied to their beds during delivery.
  • There were many deaths in the prisons that were never reported to the public. Lacey documented one of these mistreatments whereby a diabetic woman went into a coma after being denied treatment. In another case, prisoners died from suffocation after they were tied to restraint chairs. Lacey also documented that there were numerous cases of suicide in this jail. The cases were higher than any other facility in the country.
  • Mr. Arpaio also misused his position as a Sheriff. He investigated, arrested and tarnished the name of political rivals. He also accused former president of the United States, Barrack Obama of having forged his birth certificate.
  • Mr. Arpaio also embarrassed Latinos by arresting them unconstitutionally and launching investigations on whether they were in the country legally.

How Roberto Santiago Built Manaira Shopping Into One Of The Top Malls In Brazil

Roberto Santiago is an entrepreneur who was born and raised in Joao Pessoa, Bahia, Brazil. He owns two malls in the city. Manaira Shopping was his first and it was completed in 1989. The second is Mangeira Shopping and it opened in 2013. Both are highly successful malls that draw in crowds because there is so much to see and do in them.

After earning his college education Roberto Santiago opened his own company, a cardboard box design and manufacturing company. He earned enough money over the years that he could fulfill his ambitions in the world of real estate. He bought property in a section of the city that isn’t too far from the coast. Over the course of two years Manaira Shopping was constructed before it could open its doors. Once it did it became a place for people in Joao Pessoa to hang out at. His mall has enough to do that people find reasons to go to Manaira Shopping really often.

Roberto Santiago made sure that there were plenty of shopping options at Manaira Shopping and there are stores dedicated to women’s clothing, men’s clothing, children’s clothing, jewelry, sports equipment, electronics, home decor, and more. He also wanted to make sure that there was plenty of entertainment for people of all ages. Manaira Shopping has a large area with video game machines as well as a high tech bowling alley.

Manaira Shopping is one of the biggest malls in Brazil and the food court might just be the biggest of them all. Roberto Santiago has expanded it three times so that it could offer food for every taste and budget. There’s plenty of fast food options, of course, but he wanted to also satisfy those who want high-end fare. The last expansion that Roberto Santiago had done accomplished this as there are now upscale restaurants in the mall. The first new tenant like this was a Capital Steakhouse and it has since been joined by two others.

As Roberto Santiago keeps an eye on things going on around Joao Pessoa he saw that there wasn’t a really good place to hold concerts. The result was a concert hall on the roof of Manaira Shopping that he dubbed as Domus Hall. This air-conditioned space can hold 14,000 people and it attracts national and international groups and solo artists. It is also used for a broad variety of other events like plays, exhibits, large weddings, and business conventions among other uses.

When he established Mangeira Shopping, Roberto Santiago knew exactly what to build given his years of experience at the other mall. This one quickly became one of the top destinations in the part of Joao Pessoa in which it is located.

One-Sided Justice: Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin’s Alliance with the ACLU of Arizona

The Arizona chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union was established in 1959 when local members questioned whether the people of their community were receiving the best representation.

Since that time, it has been a powerhouse in the legal community, extending help to those individuals that it feels have experienced a gross miscarriage of justice leading to the violation of their human rights.

Their mission is not only to be a watchdog in Arizona but to defend the people that need them the most. This is typically a minority population and in Arizona, migrants are still experiencing a lot of prejudice today.

The ACLU sees this behavior in law enforcement practices and other organizations on a regular basis. They refuse to stand by and watch while migrants and their families are denied basic human rights.

The ACLU has always been a pioneer when it comes to challenging the way that people are being treated, especially in the legal system. They directly contributed to the formation of the Miranda Rights with their case that questioned the validity of a state law that banned interracial marriages in 1960.

This big win straight off the formation of their chapter gave them the traction they needed to challenge more laws and unjust situations. The federal class-action lawsuit filed against Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office was another big win for the Arizona chapter.

After the police department showed signs of blatant racial profiling to enforce immigration laws, they were brought to justice for their terrible behavior. In 2007 the judge issued an order that prevented Arpaio from enforcing immigration and implanted a monitor within their department to add further checks.

Unfortunately, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin had their own rights violated by Arpaio’s police department. Lacey and Larkin are the founding members of the Phoenix New Times.

When they printed something about the possibly corrupt police department, they were arrested and held. This was not only a violation of their freedom to express themselves, but it indicated a gross miscarriage of justice within the department.

Arpaio did not consider that his actions would be a violation at the time. After their release, Lacey and Larkin were awarded 3.75 million dollars. They made a joint decision to filter that money back into organizations such as the ACLU of Arizona through the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.

The specifically wanted to help the migrant population with their winnings. This win against sub-par justice and corruption was just the first step in Lacey and Larkin’s new mission to help ensure equality in Arizona.

George Soros Creates Second Largest Philanthropy Group In United States

One of the world’s richest men has given a gigantic $18 billion gift to the Open Society Foundations, an international grant-making network of organizations founded by the billionaire himself. In giving the money, George Soros has made one of the largest ever single-donation transfers of money to a human rights organization. Soros is ranked among the 30 richest men in the world with a personal net worth estimated at more than $8 billion, although his total holdings and assets are valued well beyond $8 billion. The $18 billion transfer of funds to Open Society makes this group the second largest philanthropic organization in the United States. Only the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation founded by Microsoft magnate Bill Gates is larger.

The primary function of the Open Society Foundations is the promotion of human rights and fostering democratic forms of government. It works for these causes in some 120 countries around the world, including millions spent in the United States. Open Society was established 30 years ago by Soros. George Soros is 87 years old. For decades, he has been a lightning rod for controversy. He is heavily targeted by Conservatives, right-wing groups and conspiracy theorists who have attempted to paint him as a dangerous radical using his wealth to shape the world in accordance with his own left-wing ideology.

Soros, however, is largely viewed as a man who is deeply concerned about the welfare of ordinary people, especially those who are oppressed by poverty, racial prejudice and dictatorial governments. In the United States, he has given millions to groups who are fighting racial discrimination and other negative forces that make lives miserable for innocent people.Part of the motivation for what Soros does is embedded in his life story. Soros was born in Hungary in 1930 to a Jewish family. He was barely a teenager when Nazi Germany invaded Hungary and created precarious conditions for Jews. Soros and his family were able to escape the oppression of the Nazis by fleeing to the United Kingdom. There Soros received a high-quality education in banking and economics.

After working in the banking sector for a few years, Soros established a private investment management firm, Soros Fund Management, in 1970. The organization went through growing pains and eventually became the Quantum Fund which grew to a value of $400 million by 1980. In 2013 the Quantum Fund earned $5.5 billion which made it among the most successful hedge funds in world history.Soros became a naturalized American citizen in 1961. He has a long record of supporting political candidates and causes in the United States. Because he mostly supports Democratic candidates and issues, he has become a heavy target for Republican and Conservative forces which paint Soros in a negative light. The record of his philanthropic giving, however, shows a man less concerned about politics than the basic welfare of his fellow human beings, especially disadvantaged people in the U.S. and around the world.

Lacey And Larkin Are For Rights

When Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin wrote articles about the Sheriff in their area, they were taken away from their homes in the middle of the night. They were arrested, and they won a lawsuit for 3.75 million dollars.

With the amount of money that they won, they opened up the Frontera Fund. This is a fund that helps people to fight for their migrant, civil and human rights. Lacey and Larkin spent the majority of their careers fighting for the First Amendment Rights, and they encourage people to fight for their rights too. Their fund helps people throughout the state of Arizona.

The Frontera Fund has helped many different people. It is also an example of why people should stand up for their rights because something can be done about violations to them. They should not back done when they know they are right.

If they need other assistance, they should do a search on the Internet to find organizations that will help them with what they need to have done. These organizations will have information for them about how to file charges when their rights have been violated.

A person should pay attention to what they have to do in order to make sure that they are protected under the laws when their rights have been violated.

When they talk to someone about what happened to them, they will want to find someone that they can trust completely. Since this can make all the difference for them, they will want to have a good rapport with the person. Having this ability to converse with someone that can help them immensely is imperative when they are dealing with issues that affect their rights. Read more: Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

In all cases, the person that has had their rights violated will want to make sure that they have all the details correct about what happened to them. The best way that they can do this is to write it all down shortly after the incident has occurred. They can use a notebook that they can jot down the information in.

This notebook should be kept in a safe place where they can find it easily. Larkin and Lacey should be as detailed as possible when they are making notes about what happened to them.

Since they will want to write down exactly what happened and whether anyone else was present, they should included a date, a time, names and numbers. All of this information can help them when they go to report that their rights have been violated.

People should hold Lacey and Larkin in high esteem for reporting what happened to them. In sticking up for their rights, they have helped many other people that have had similar things happen to them.
