Robert Ivy: An American Role Model

Robert Ivy has made history. He is the first architect to receive the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award. The Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to living and currently active artists in connection to the Mississippi state area for extraordinary and outstanding bodies of work in artistic endeavors whether it is creating, performing, supporting arts that are truly worthy of grand honor and notoriety.

Though it goes without saying, this award is one of the greatest honors anyone could receive. Robert Ivy now joins a very, very small group of persons to receive the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award. Other recipients include: Walter Anderson, an American painter and writer (awarded in the year 1989); Leontyne Price, an American soprano singer (awarded in the year 2000); Eudora Welty, an American novelist and short story writer (awarded in the year 2001); Shelby Foote, an American novelist and historian (awarded in the year 2004); and Morgan Freeman, an American actor (awarded in the year 2007).

CEO Robert Ivy has been given the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement award by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. They strongly feel, without a doubt, that he has taken the place that he more than deserves by receiving this prestigious award. The American Institute of Architects also feels the same way.

Robert Ivy served in the United States Navy before receiving his degree Masters of Architecture from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Sewanee: The University of the South. Since 2011, he has been the Chief Executive Officer of the American Institute of Architects. He is also an accomplished author. His biography: Fay Jones: Architect is on its third edition and is held in the highest regards by The Art Library Society of North America. In March of 2010 he was given the title of Master Architect by Alpha Chi Ro, the national architecture fraternity. He is only one of seven persons to receive this honor during the 100 year history of Alpha Chi Ro. As well as being the only architect to receive it in the 21st century. Robert Ivy is also the recipient of the Crain Award as well as the McGraw-Hill Award for Management Excellence. And, as well as the multitude of achievements listed above, he is the Editor in Chief of Architectural Record and Vice President and Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Construction Media.

Lacey and Larkin arrested by the federal governemnt

Veteran newspaper journalists Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have been on the wrong side with the federal government. The FBI recently arrested the two and detained for various charges involving money laundering amongst other charges. They were arrested in relation to a website they previously ran known as Backpage.com.

Although they had sold their interests in their company in 2015, there are charges which the FBI need them to answer. Initially, they were reports that they would be charged with sex trafficking through the website, but this did not appear on the official charge sheet availed to the media. Although Michael Lacey was released on recognizance, Larkin is still in detention waiting for a release trial.

Lacey and Larkin have been a prominent journalist in Arizona running various media outlets. In 1970 they launched the Phoenix New Times which went on to become one of the biggest media outlets in the country running 17 weeklies. In recent years, they have however been selling their interest in media and taking a position as advocates of the First Amendment. They have a foundation known as the Frontera Fund which funds the activities of human, civil and immigrants’ rights in the state of Arizona. Michel Lacey and Jim Larkin have been on at loggerheads with the government in multiple occasions. Most of the times they have triumphed since the allegations they face are untrue and cannot stand the test of the law.

The arrest of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey comes after they launched a new website to advocate for the First Amendment. “The Front Page Confidential” is all about exposing the illegalities committed by government agencies in the country.

The latest attempt by the government to arrest the two and shut down Backpage.com is seen as an attempt to shut them up. However, the two maintain that the action taken by the federal government is illegal and unconstitutional and they will be ready to challenge the accusations. They add that this is a blatant violation of the freedom of speech and it is sad those the government is trying to oppress the media in this century.

Lacey and Larkin are known for their philanthropic work especially in Arizona where they have been fighting discrimination of the minorities- mostly the immigrants. The state has for many years been notorious with cases of human rights violations.

Lacey and Larkin have tried to fight off such cases by sponsoring the activities of human rights groups in the state. The two have been victims of human rights discrimination, and they would not be happy to see anyone else be taken through torture as they did. The two were arrested by notorious Sheriff of Maricopa County Joe Arpaio who for many years ruled the county with an iron fist.

Lacey and Larkin are known for the prolonged court battles they have had with Joe Arpaio as they seek justice for themselves and the numerous immigrants who were tortured under his watch.
